The European Union Delegation to Thailand, in partnership with the Department of Trade Negotiations (DTN), Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), Federation of Thai Industries Climate Change Institute (FTI CCI), and Department of Climate Changes and Environment is pleased to invite you to participate in a half-day Seminar on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and decarbonisation opportunities in Thailand, on 28 September 2023 from 14.00-19.00 (Bangkok Time) with an aim to raise awareness and build better understanding of Thai public and private sector about the EU CBAM Regulation and the implementing act(s) focusing on obligations during the transitional period.

The Seminar will be held in a hybrid format (both online and onsite in Bangkok) with a simultaneous interpretation and will feature high-level speakers and experts from the EU, research institutes and the private sector.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is EU’s landmark tool to put a fair price on the carbon emitted during the production of carbon intensive goods that are entering the EU, and to encourage cleaner industrial production in non-EU countries. The gradual introduction of the CBAM is aligned with the phase-out of the allocation of free allowances under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to support the decarbonisation of EU industry. The CBAM Regulation officially entered into force the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU on 16 May 2023. The CBAM itself will enter into application in its transitional phase on 1 October 2023, with the first reporting period for importers ending 31 January 2024.
